how to record myself?

Post by kosiwago »

I'd like to know what equipment to use. Uploading shouldn't be a problem but how do I record it? Can you record stuff with an MP3 player?

Definitely yes.
We have discussed some devices before (see hardware section). Just be sure to get a player that comes with a built-in mic. It´s harder to find a player that has the option for an external mic but you won´t need that for nearby recordings in an otherwise quiet surrounding.
I still recommend Cowon, iRiver and Creative.

I think it was sc0tt-uk who recommended the T30 (iRiver?) for recordings.

Another possibility is using a Digi-Cam, many of them are able to record sound in a good quality, for example this very little Pentax Camara, which makes Pictures and Sounds in very high quality:

If you know when the action is going to happen and want to be set up beforehand the Olympus VN-3100PC and VN-4100PC have timers set up on them so you don't have to be fumbling with a recorder. Not the highest quality but they work good.

Thanks for the advice! I will check if the mp3 player I have can record sound. Otherwise I will try my digi cam... Unfortunately, it only records 1,30 minutes or something like that.

And yes, I was thinking of trying to record myself. That way I might be able to swap for some guy sounds. ;) I mean, I don't have ANYTHING to trade so the only way is for me to record myself.

Which I have NO IDEA how it's going to sound...or if anybody will find it exciting at all.

Hey Kosiwago - an idea I posted might be a solution for you:
http://yeppie.org/ssl-forum/viewtopic.php?t=664

I've also been thinking of recording myself for a while - someone's gotta get things moving with that "for the gals" forum. I've got the equipment already, but all I keep thinking is "is anybody really gonna wanna hear this?" I mean, unless I was to fake it a bit, it's not like there's loads to listen too, it'd be a real less-is-more recording if that makes sense. Plus... sucks to admit it... but maybe I'm a bit shy about this!
The idea of trading with another first-timer before I post up here to see what she thinks makes things seem a lot less scary though... drop me a PM if you wanna try that.

Cheers... good luck with your mp3 player!

What a great idea! Hey, it's OK to be shy. I know I'd feel a little weird recording myself...but I also think that there'd be no harm in it. It's not really like it's porn or anything. :D

And I'm so curious now. ;) For me, real stuff is probably better than fake. Over-the-top stuff can be awful, really.

And well, it's difficult to know the reaction before i hear it, right? ;)

I'll try to get some stuff and then get back to ya!
